Ampligen is an investigational double-stranded ribonucleic acid preparation thought to have both antiviral and immunomodulatory properties.  A preliminary study of ampligen infusions in bedridden Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients showed a significant improvement in exercise performance, quality of life and symptom reduction compared with placebo.  However, the magnitude of the treatment effect was small and therapy caused serious and life-threatening adverse effects.
